Bathing Ape turned my head right away when I first caught a glimpse of their superhero sneaker packs. I liked their packaging, the vibrant colors and their style rip-off from the Nike Air Force 1s. Then the fire started flickering when leaders of the hip-hop arena starting wearing the bold lollipop kick. However, the whole Ice Cream craze kind of killed the sparks for me. At the end of the day, there is so much you can do to a sneaker. When the rest of the sneaker brands jumped on the electric bandwagon, BAPE got lost in the mix fast.

More crazy color ways are sure to come from Bapes. With the opening of new stores, I hope the brand has new ideas to keep business flowing. If you look at EBay bids, you can witness the death of a fad simmer with the news of yesterday. What BAPE did right was it nailed the color craze before the majors. So it proved it had good timing and skill in trend forecasting. Not only that, it offered something different and was one of the first indie brands with enough muscle to compete with the already established sneaker titans.

An innovator is always brewing new ideas. However, it's been over a year and BAPE shoes keep churning out what has already been tried and done. So how do they add more fuel to their already dying flame? They need more celebrities endorsing them instead of the same ones. Two, they have to keep staying innovative. When innovation turns stale, you become a regular just like the rest.
